Bar Built From Reclaimed Cedar Decking and Birch Logs

November 03, 2017 1 Comment

bar made from reclaimed wood

Dave Huston, an Old Grain Co. partner, recently built this reclaimed wood bar from old cedar decking and a fresh cut birch tree. The black granite bar top was reclaimed from a kitchen remodeling project. The black granite perfectly accents the red and gray cedar decking and white birch trees.

Dave cut the birch trees from a friends property. He used a dado blade to cut the channel in each log that allowed him to slide in the cedar boards.

The bar was built as a wedding gift for his cousin and it was used at their reception to host more than 100 people.

What a beautiful bar. I built a similar bar last year with red barn wood but instead of using the birch trees, I used 8 × 8 posts pulled from an old barn on my parents farm. I like the idea of using birch trees, it gives it a local Minnesota feel.
