Shelves in Deephaven, MN Built from Reclaimed Oak 2x4's

rough sawn edge on this barnwood

One of our clients in Deephaven, MN designed and installed six beautiful reclaimed wood shelves in their den. These were custom made from from reclaimed oak 2x4's that were glued together. We left a bevel between the boards. The client wanted a thick shelf with some weight to it that would blend well with their board formed concrete fireplace. The brackets on these shelves are hidden to create a clean look to the installation.

We applied a natural oil based product called Rubio Monocoat to the shelves in the pure color. This finish left the boards looking natural and highlighted the rough sawn details on the boards. The oil locks in any dust or dirt that was remaining on the old wood which keeps things nice and clean.

The client wanted to create a Restoration Hardware look and feel for their living room and we think these custom reclaimed wood shelves are a beautiful fit for the room.

These reclaimed oak boards were cleaned with a wire brush but left rough. The Rubio Monocoat we used was the Pure color. The Rubio is nice because it doesn’t change the color of the wood much and it protects the wood from spills. It also seals in the dust so they have a clean finish.

The Rubio Monocoat created a really nice rustic finish on those boards. What color did you use? Do you know where I can buy it in the Minneapolis area?

Reclaimed wood is unique, beautiful and fun to work with. Sometimes it can be challenging for our customers to imagine the possibilities when they see the rustic wood that we sell. We have a great team who can provide you with guidance to complete the project yourself or if you like we can build it for you. Mantles, barn doors, wall covering, frames, shelves, stair treads. It's all possible using the reclaimed wood that we sell.

We would like to share some of the amazing projects that are possible using reclaimed lumber.

We covered an old brick fireplace in the basement bedroom of this Minnetonka home with reclaimed barnwood to give it a more modern and updated look. For this project we took 100+ year old oak 2 x 5's and cut them in half which gave us 1 x 5's.
